Kevin F. O'Malley (born 1947) is the 31st United States Ambassador to Ireland. An Irish American attorney from St. Louis, Missouri, Mr. O'Malley was nominated for the post of US Ambassador to Ireland on June 5, 2014 by President Barack Obama.〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2014/06/05/president-obama-announces-more-key-administration-posts )〕 O'Malley was approved by the Government of Ireland and the United States Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, before being confirmed by the full United States Senate on September 18, 2014 and appointed by President Obama as the next US Ambassador to Ireland. He was sworn-in by Vice President of the United States Joe Biden on September 30, 2014 and presented his credentials to President of Ireland Michael D. ==Personal life and education==
Kevin O'Malley is a second generation Irish American, with dual citizenship of the United States and Ireland until returning Irish citizenship in order to become ambassador.〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://themissouritimes.com/10765/press-release-mccaskill-kevin-omalley-terrific-choice-u-s-ambassador-ireland/ )〕 He has Irish ancestry on both sides of his family, and his paternal grandparents came from Westport, County Mayo. O'Malley is a Roman Catholic, and attended St. Vincent's Seminary at second level in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and the novitiate at St. Mary’s Seminary in Perryville, Missouri, where he studied for the priesthood. O'Malley received an A.B. in 1970 from Saint Louis University and J.D. in 1973 from Saint Louis University School of Law. He has been an active member of the Democratic Party in Missouri, and White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough described O'Malley as a "close personal friend" of US President Barack Obama. He was previously an officer in the United States Army Reserve. He has two sons - Brendan and Ryan - with his wife, Dena, and one grandson.〔http://www.stlmag.com/news/the-irish-ambassador/〕
